During a pre-participation physical, I would explain that contact sports offer many benefits, such as improving physical fitness, mental health, and teamwork skills. However, they can also increase the risk of injury if proper precautions are not taken.

I would advise the patient to always wear appropriate protective equipment, including helmets, mouthguards, or pads, depending on the sport. It is also important to warm up before training, stretch regularly, and progressively increase the intensity of exercise. In addition, athletes should listen to their bodies and stop playing if they experience pain, dizziness, or unusual fatigue. Staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and respecting the rules of the sport are also essential for preventing injuries.

Questions I Would Ask the Patient

To ensure that the patient can participate safely, I would ask several questions. For example, I would ask what sport they play and how often they train or compete. I would also ask whether they have had any previous injuries, such as concussions or fractures.

Furthermore, I would ask if they use protective equipment and if they ever experience symptoms like pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness during exercise. Finally, I would ask about their goals in practicing the sport and whether they have any health concerns related to physical activity.

I think it's a solid and well-rounded response! I liked how you connected the practical safety advice to the patient's individual context by asking about their goals and personal health concerns, which makes the guidance feel much more tailored than a generic checklist.
