I. What advice would you give the patient about playing sports safely?
First of all, I would recommend a sport based on the patient's age and their sports habits. You cannot advise rugby to an elderly person who has never really played sports before. Their medical situation is also a point to consider. Next, I would recommend beginners to walk daily or take the stairs as often as possible. If someone suffers from bodily pain, for example, I would recommend hiring a coach to explain the technical movements. Finally, I would recommend a team sport for people who need physical activity but also social connection and self-confidence. Then I would recommend drinking water and resting. Listen to your body and take care of it.
II. What questions would you have for the patient regarding playing sports?
I would ask the patient about their sports habits. How many times do they train per day? Do they practice this sport at a high level? If the patient is a beginner, I would ask why they feel the need to do sports right now? What are their goals? What type of sport do they want to practice and why?If the patient is an athlete, I would ask if they have ever had an injury before? What has changed in their training and mindset in order not to get injured again? Do they feel sufficiently supported and heard in their sports practice?
