I- Before engaging in any sport, I think that it is important to ensure that the activity is appropriate for the patient’s age, physical condition, and overall health status, as safety should always remain a priority. Therefore, to help my patient play sports safely, I would generally advise maintaining a healthy lifestyle (including getting adequate sleep, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and spacing out training sessions to allow proper recovery). Moreover, I would recommend warming up before and stretching after each session to reduce the risk of muscle soreness or injury. Finally, I would raise the patient’s awareness about warning signs, such as persistent pain or unusual symptoms, so that they can seek medical advice if necessary.
II- To ensure safe participation, I would ask about the patient’s medical history, for example: “Have you ever suffered a sports-related injury?” or “Are you currently taking any medications?”. I would also ask about their sport, such as: “What sport do you play?” and “How long have you been practicing it?”. Finally, I would ask whether they experience any unusual symptoms during exercise, for instance: “Do you experience chest pain or dizziness during physical activity?”.
