I. What advice would you give the patient about playing sports safely?

I would start by introducing myself as doctor then ask how they are doing. Then, I would say the following advices:

You have to alert an adult or an older kid if you feel bad during practice, like that they can help you. It doesn't mean that you don't have "grit" to talk about your issues, it's really important for you to take of yourself if you want to pursue this sport journey. If you're hurt, your teammates are going to feel it and they will be worried for you, I assure you everyone prefers you to be recovering than struggling on the field because as a team they support you and will not abandon you only because you're hurt. If you feel like your brain is weirder than usual, it feels like cotton or it's heavy or you see spots in your usually pristine vision then you should say something to your parents or coach or seniors because it's really important that we check up for brain injuries otherwise you might lose a lot of your usual wits and skills.

II. What questions would you have for the patient regarding playing sports?

- So, how have you been at practice lately ? Are you enjoying it ? Do you feel more tired than usual ?

- Is the coach treating you well ?

- Do you think your team is nice to be around ?

- Are you feeling anxious when you're going to practice or is it really exciting for you or even both ?

- Are you happy to compete this year ?

- Did you get injured recently ? Even at training, it matters.

- Did you receive any big hits near your face or your head ?

Thanks for sharing your advice! I really like how you explained the importance of telling someone if you feel unwell during practice. I agree that taking care of yourself is more important than just “pushing through” and that your teammates will actually support you if you get hurt. I also think it’s really good that you mentioned brain injuries—sometimes people forget how serious they can be. For the questions, I think you asked very important ones, especially about how the patient feels during practice and if they’re anxious or excited. Maybe you could also ask about their general health or if they have any medical conditions, because that can affect how they play sports safely.

Overall, I think your post is really clear and caring, and it makes me feel like the patient would be listened to.
