Staying safe on the field:
Playing sports is fantastic for both your physical and mental health ; but safety comes first! Here are some key tips:
- Always wear the appropriate protective gear for your sport
- Never ignore symptoms like dizziness, black spots in your vision, or disorientation after a collision (these could signal a concussion)
- If you take a hit to the head, stop playing immediately and get checked out. No game is worth risking your brain and your life !
- Allow yourself proper recovery time after any injury before returning to play
- Train progressively ; don’t push too hard too fast
Questions I'd ask you :
- Have you experienced any previous injuries, especially head injuries?
- How are you feeling mentally? Are you enjoying your sport or feeling pressured?
- Are you sleeping well and managing stress at school or home?
- Have you experienced any difficult events recently that might be affecting your mood or concentration?
- What are your goals for playing ?
