First and foremost, I want to ensure that my patient is fully aware of the risks involved in participating in contact sports. By understanding these risks, they will be better prepared to engage safely and will be able to recognise their own limits.
I would also recommend a personalized series of preparatory exercises to address the various risks and to make certain that their body is properly conditioned before a match. For example, they should know which stretches are most appropriate for their sport. Furthermore, I would ask which protective equipment they use and offer advice on the most suitable one. Finally, I would make sure they have all the necessary emergency contact numbers and information in case of an accident.
The questions I would ask:
Do you always do enough physical preparation at the start of every match or training session?
Do you consult a healthcare professional whenever you experience pain?
Are you getting enough sleep?
