I. Advice for Playing Sports Safely
Listen to the 'Quiet' Injuries: Not every injury comes with a bruise. If you find yourself feeling unusually burnt out, losing focus, or feeling disconnected from your teammates, that is a sign your body needs a different kind of rest. Don't ignore the mental side of the game.
The 'Bounce Back' Rule: You are going to lose games, and you might make mistakes. Remember that learning how to fail and get back up is a skill just like dribbling or sprinting. Use the team environment for support; you don't have to carry a loss alone.
II. Questions for the Patient
What sport are you playing, and how many hours per week do you train or compete?
Have you had any injuries in the past, even ones that seemed minor at the time?
How are you feeling emotionally about participating — are you enjoying it?
Is there any pressure from coaches, teammates, or family that feels uncomfortable?
