I: Before any sport practice, make sure to stretch properly, it will enhance your flexibility and get your blood flow started to enhance your performance. As a general rule of thumbs, you should stretch for 10 to 15 minutes a day. Do not forget to wear your protective equipment as well, whether it be helmets, pads…depending on the sports you play. And of course, listen to your body: If you feel unusual fatigue, dizziness, sharp pain... it’s better to rest a bit and avoid worsening your condition rather than pushing through. Don’t forget that your mental health is also important, and can impact more than sports, don’t hesitate to reach out and talk if something’s the matter. And of course, don’t forget to stay hydrated and eat nutritious meals.
II: I would ask them for their medical history, especially concerning injuries: have they already gotten seriously injured while playing sports? Did they ever get a concussion, broken bones, a sprain? Depending on their answer, the best course of action would be to give them advice to reduce risks or avoid injury. Furthermore, it would be useful to ask how often they practice and what role sports play in their life : Do they want to become a professional or is it more casual, if they participate in competitions…That way, I can advise them better so that they can practice safely no matter the level or sport practiced. During check-up, asking questions about their mental health related to sports, their integration in the team, how they feel about going to practice…would also be relevant.
