During a consultation with a patient as part of a pre-sport medical assessment, I would explain that sport can be very beneficial for their physical and mental health, but that it is important to take steps to ensure their safety. I would advise them to always warm up and stretch before taking part in any sporting activity to reduce the risk of injury, and to use appropriate equipment, such as helmets, protective gear or shoes offering good support, depending on the sport in question. I would also emphasise the importance of learning the correct techniques, staying hydrated regularly and listening to their body: if they experience pain, it is better to stop and consult a professional rather than persist despite the pain. It is also essential to allow sufficient time for rest and recovery to prevent injuries caused by overexertion.

I would ask the patient several questions to better understand their situation. For example, I would ask if they have had any previous injuries or suffer from chronic pain, what sport they plan to practise, and how often they train or compete. I would also ask them if they have access to adequate coaching or supervision, and if they use appropriate safety equipment. Furthermore, I would check whether they suffer from any medical conditions, such as asthma or heart problems.

Your response is very clear and medically appropriate. I appreciate that your advice can apply to many people and that you could adapt it based on the patient's individual needs, including their past injuries, sport type, and health conditions.

I really like your answer because it clearly explains how sport can be beneficial while still focusing on safety. I especially agree with the importance of warming up and using proper protective equipment.

Clear and well-structured advice, covering both safety measures and important questions to assess the patient’s readiness for sports participation.
